Richard Hamstead takes Round 1 win with Trans Tasman Racing filling all podium spots.
Richard Hamstead took a win in what was a race that he controlled right from Lap 1. Richard had shown great speed all week in the Biante Model Cars Mustang but really maximised that speed tonight. Hamstead qualified toward the pointy end before capitalising on some mistakes of his opponents off the start. From that point on Richard never looked back. Despite huge pressure from behind most of the race, Richard was able to remain cool under pressure and take home his first solo race win in the V8 SCOPS Premier Series since 2016! A result well deserved.
Richard was also quick to point out that the win makes it 2 from 2 for the TTR Mustang… 2nd and 3rd was filled by reigning Series Champion Madison Down in the Virtual Racing School #1 and new recruit Brady Meyers in the X-trim Motor Trimming #22. Both drivers ran towards the pointy end most of the night showing strong speed. It’s certainly an ideal start for the two scoring solid points in the 250km format.
Josh Anderson had a night of what could’ve been. Ando had been fast all week in testing but a qualifying session resulting in a 10th was not the result he was after. For Anderson, that track position loss made it tricky to salvage a result but he never gave up and pushed his way forward to 8th. Encouraging speed and definitely results will be coming the way of the Perenso #36. Emily Jones was solid on her debut for McLaren Shadow finishing just outside the Top 10 in 11th place.
Jake Moloney got caught up in some dramas finishing in 16th while Leigh Ellis and Kurt Stenberg were 19th and 39th respectively. It was the ideal start for the team with all cars on the pace and some great results. Never a bad start to the year when you achieve a 1-2-3! The team will now look forward to Round 2 in 3 weeks time and aim to keep the momentum going.A huge thanks to all of our sponsors for their continued support of the team and our drivers. It is much appreciated!Virtual Racing School | Biante Model Cars | TP Race Design | Perenso | X-trim Motor Trimming
